Building for our Future
A community center designed for everyone
VISION FOR THE NEW CENTER
The new Belmont Community Center will be purpose-built for today's needs and tomorrow's possibilities. Modern, accessible design. Flexible spaces that adapt to diverse programming. Energy-efficient, sustainable construction. Emergency preparedness capabilities the current facility can't provide.
This isn't just about replacing an aging building—it's about creating the gathering place our community deserves.
WHAT THE NEW CENTER WILL PROVIDE
-
Spaces Designed for Active Aging
The new center will provide accessible, well-lit spaces specifically designed for Belmont's senior community:
Exercise and wellness facilities with appropriate equipment and programming
Social gathering areas that encourage connection and combat isolation
Lifelong learning classrooms for workshops, lectures, and skill development
Accessible design throughout meeting ADA standards and beyond
Comfortable spaces for reading, games, and quiet activities
These aren't add-ons—they're core to the building's design from day one.
-
Room to Learn, Create, and Grow
Families need flexible, safe spaces that support children's development and working parents' schedules:
After-school program spaces with dedicated areas for homework, activities, and care
Arts and creativity studios for classes, camps, and self-directed exploration
Multi-purpose rooms that adapt for parties, performances, and celebrations
Safe outdoor areas connected to indoor programming spaces
Family-friendly design including nursing rooms and child-height facilities
Modern facilities that make quality programming accessible and affordable.
-
Spaces That Bring Us Together
Community groups, nonprofits, and neighborhood organizations need reliable meeting spaces:
Flexible meeting rooms in various sizes for different group needs
Event spaces that accommodate celebrations, fundraisers, and gatherings
Modern technology including A/V equipment, Wi-Fi, and video conferencing
Kitchen facilities for events and cultural programming
Accessible scheduling making space available to diverse community groups
A true community hub serves the organizations that strengthen our social fabric.
-
Ready When Crisis Strikes
Climate change and natural disasters require community resilience infrastructure:
Backup power systems ensuring functionality during outages
Emergency shelter capacity with appropriate facilities and supplies
Communication hub for coordination and information distribution
Accessible safety features serving all residents including those with disabilities
Resilient construction designed to withstand seismic events and extreme weather
The current facility cannot fulfill this critical role. A new center can.
HOW IT GETS BUILT
The Citizen’s Initiative Process
This is community-led from start to finish. Here’s how it works:
FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY
Dedicated Funding
Special parcel tax revenue is legally dedicated only to the community center. It cannot be diverted to other city expenses, general fund, or unrelated projects.
Transparent Oversight
Public reporting and accountability for all expenditures. Regular updates on project progress, costs, and timeline.
Accessible Details
